Desert Dagger is Dull

I'm admittedly a neophyte with knives. Having said that...

I've had a Desert Dagger for two weeks now. The feel is awesome, and is beautifully finished, but...

In comparison to my SOG X-Ray Vision and Benchmade 690, this knife was dull out of the box. I mean, it's sharp, but not critically sharp.

I was wondering if this type of knife is made less sharp deliberately for some reason I don't yet know, or if the 440 steel just does not take as good an edge.

Would it be a bad idea to sharpen it myself to a finer edge?

SOG does not officially support people sharpening their own knives, since most don't know how...
If you are unhappy with the sharpness, contact SOG and they will get you taken care of.
