My brother and I were riding our dirt bikes (01 XR650r ME, 09 CRF450x brother) in a river wash near the Bradshaw mountains in Yavapai county last weekend. The wash ended and we have to climb our way from the wash to continue with the trail. My brother went first. As he rode up, he took the high side of the trail and lost his balance towards the top. As he started to fall, he put his left foot down to save himself and the bike. Wearing no motorcycle boots and the incline of the mountain, it wasn’t enough to support him or the bike. His ankle and tibia broke (found out two days later in the hospital).

Knowing little first aid, I know we need to support his ankle and ride the hell out! I brought along my Ontario SP8 and located a fiberglass trail marker, I chopped it into two pieces. I stabilized his left ankle with the fiberglass marker and rode out 5 miles to our vehicles. Later we found out his tibia and another bone broke.

sweet story, and a quick recovery for your bro.

I just bought a ktm 125cc last month, finished putting the studs on my tires yesterday, what a job!

hitting up the lake this weekend :D

Good job. Knowing a little bit of first aid probably save your brother from alot of pain that day. Now go tell him to buy a pair of motorcycle-boots and a good knife.

I have an 2001 F650GS(Single) bound to arrive sometime soon, hopefully.
Cannot wait to get the new bike out in the woods for some riding.
Did that get a lot of fiberglass fibers in his pants?
Looks itchy.

No, he didnt get itchy :D. The factory cut side was inside of his shoe. The exposed cut side was outside of the shoe.

good boots and other gear are worth the money and will often let you walk away from times that could otherwise get very expensive and take lots of time to recover from.

nylon MC clothing is way more abrasion resistant than denim, or even leather. MC boots offer support that hiking or combat boots don't and gloves and a full face lid are also very smart investments.

good job with the splint!

I've been riding dirtbikes for 23 years. Never without mc boots. Riding around the desert in sneakers? What were you thinking?
Good job on the splint though.
Well, if you're gonna be stupid - you'd better be tough....
