Here was my 3 day weekend project.

It was fun to make....drawing from tips and supplies from fellow knifemaking friends.

The 7.25 in. blade is forged from a piece of 1/4" L6 saw steel that Ray Kirk gave me....which he got from Larry Harley. The blade is handrubbed with a Scotchbrite finish for easy maintenance. I used the palm sander trick that Bruce Evans shows in his tutorial.

It was twice normalized and then edge quenched.....then tempered twice....2 hr intervals at 400F.

She shaves hair and the clip is sharpened ala' Bagwell. The final edge was applied on a Norton Fine India

The guard is stainless with a black micarta "ferrule" and a mortised handle done in the fashion of my friend Matt Lamey. The handle micarta is dark brown linen....yes, that's right...dark brown! About 10 years ago Troy Koval gave me a sheet of it.....said he had never had any before or since. I saved it for a special knife.

I made the sheath from 3 color desert camo kydex. I spent a day with Mike Sastre...gleaning sheath making knowledge. If the ABS has mastersmiths....Mike is truly a master sheath maker.

The nylon loop folds around the back of the sheath and is held by 2 Pull The Dot unidirectional snaps. This fits the current MOLLE equipment well and is quick detachable...but secure.

Pretty sweet Greg. Great lines, sweet micarta, and I really like the jumbo pin :). I'm going to have to start using more micarta.

Matt....that pin is actually a Corby bolt.

I forgot to add in the credits that I forged the tip of the blade using ideas that I got from you when you visited the shop....it made life much easier. I tried the Eutectic paste too,,,,,but I really didnt like it

Boy, you really have to be careful taking advice from me :). Did you try using heavy hammers?

I stopped soldering a while ago. I had a hard time soldering using wire solder, so I moved to the euctetic. The euctetic was slightly better, but I still didn't like it. I'm really happy with JB Weld; easy to apply, easy to clean, and it does a great job sealing the guard.

Man that is too cool! Do you have a picture of the back of the sheath? What attaches the belt loop. Just snaps?

Man that is a WICKED looking fighter..You make some great looking Bowies.
Love the Brown Micarta also.

really nice Greg good to see the back sharpened o those fighters keep up the good work .

I used my Claiborne "Smurf" press to forge the tang from about 3/4 inch of the rear end......the press makes quick work of it! The tang runs most of the way thru the handle.

Brian...I will try to get ya a pic of the sheath back.

Great job Greg. That's one awesome fighter. I like the shape of the handle. Looks like it would be hard to let go of. Great job on the sheath too.
