Desert handle scales

Hello all,
Just a couple questions on the desert handles. I have a BK7 and love it, and am looking at getting one of the new BK10s in desert coat, but while I like that size handle on the big ones, I think I'd like to scale it down (pun intended) a bit for the Crewman. I know you can get replacement black ones, so are extra desert scales available if I screw it up?

Also, if I do sand them down am I going to lose that cool, swirly, desert camo effect and just have plain tan?
Thanks a bunch!

t1mpani, I don't know for sure about the availability of the desert scales, but I do know from pictures that they're hollow, so you won't be able to sand much. Give them a chance as they are though, I thought it felt pretty good as it was. The Crewman is not a small knife, it's just a little shorter than the BK7.

The Tan is a overlay on the black handle that is quite tough.
To reduce handle size, remove the scales and place the flat side on some coarse sand paper. Remove equal amounts from both scales. You could probably remove about 1/4" total...thats a bunch.
