I just received this Desert Off Duty, is it really a knife or a prybar with a edge? This one has a swedge on the top, are they all like that? The only pictures I could find didn't show the top very well. It also has the Busse Combat logo instead of the Busse Custom Shop logo. Anyone know how many Desert ODs have been made? I took a few pictures comparing it to a AD, a 5/16" MS and a 1/4" Variant MS.

:D

I got a Desert Off Duty with snakeskin at BLADE West last year and it has the swedge on the top too. Are there any out there without the swedge?

To my knowledge there is only 1 OD without the swedge. As to the number of Desert Off Duties. I've lost count, but believe the number is probably still under 10. Beyond that you could get into handle configurations for more precise numbers.

Great piece, the OD is by far by favorite Busse piece ever.....

I’ve ordered one in Desert as well! With a little bit of luck it might be shipping too. :D

I've been carrying a Gene Ingram knife on my belt for a while now when I'm not at work. His knives are WAY skinnier than the regular AD. I've been thinking of replacing the Gene Ingram knife with my AD with a sheath from Kenny Rowe. Taking the AD to the next level, the OD, seems really silly. Looking at the OD knives it is comical. What the hell are you going to use that knife for?? If the regular AD is borderline being thin enough for real world use, what about the OD??
It may be a unique piece for folks like Dark Nemesis who admit to never using their Busses, but who else would pay nearly $500 for an OD???

Simple, me. :D

Why do you have more than one knife when one would suffice for all duties??
My interests are knives, firearms and horses (not necessarily in that order).

Each to his own.. :D

Thanks for the info on the swedge guys.
Matteo, I just like the chunky feel plus the rarity and by the way, I didn't pay near $500 for it.

:D

What do you mean the AD is borderline thin enough for real world use? I use the hell out of mine all the time and I'll tell you what, I'd take it over near anything else on the market today.

keep in mind that the OD will cut identical to the 1/8" active duty on the edge - as long as their both resharpened to the same angle. the only difference between the two is how far you have to spread the material appart across the flat of the knife.

and come on, its right next to a 5/16" mean street. how much more silly is a 3/8" OD then a 5/16" mean street? if people were buying/liking that short of a knife (from spine to edge) in that thickness 10 years ago, i dont see why the demand would have changed.

if it were available to me, and i had had the money, i would have bought the 5/16 SHBA, and were it ever made, id be willing to put up 750 for a 3/8" SHBA. though im sure it would go for more then that...

*edit, i traded my swedge ground 1/8" active duty out because it didnt have enough edge - and because it felt weak at that thickness. in infi, it may be stronger then any other knife ground like it at that thickness, but it still felt weak to me.*
