(Desert) sage/(desert) tan blade colour question

Good evening (21:34 here) folks!

I have a question for those in the know. For a while now I've been the proud owner of a Desert Jack and I've been wanting to aqcuire a companion to it in the same colour combo. Here's where the trouble starts: while the Swamp offers several types with a 'desert sage' blade coat option, pictures of blades in that colour seem very grey-ish to me and not the same as the sage/tan blade coat on my DJ. So my question is this: is the 'desert sage' blade coat option on the current line of Rats the same blade coat as the one on the Desert Jack or is it different?

I apologise if this has been asked and answered before, but I did use the search function and found lots of info on what I wasn't lookin' for ;)

Thx,

D-R

The sage is more like a very light tan/green colour. The sage that came on the NMFSHs recently was different to the two ASH1s in the same. The desert tan is completly different to the sage however.

Desert Jack might have been 'military overrun' colour combo, which would mean that no current coating will match it exactly in colour.

I sure miss that DJ! I regretted selling that one the second it was gone! The sage on it didn't match any of the other sage blades I owned at the time of selling it. The older sage Rats also had a thinner coating and especially on th DJ it seemed like. Glad you are enjoying it and good luck on finding a match!

The Desert Jack I own is definitely not the Sage color. Much more of a tan coating than anything else (I believe it was called "Desert Tan"). No greenish in it whatsoever. Compared to my EH3 mini-mojo, which is definitely the green-ish/grey-ish/tan-ish Sage color. The Desert Tan has a fine, pebble-like texture somewhat like sandpaper, whereas the Sage is a crinkle-coat.

Both in the same pic, next to each other (the Swamp Warden at the bottom is also Sage)

Here is a pic borrowed from elof_alv. I believe the lower knife, a Safari Skinner, is the Sage color while the DJ above is the Desert Tan. Note the obvious texture difference.

ETA: I do not believe the Sage has ever been anything but a crinkle-coat. If yours has the sandpaper-like texture, it is not Sage, but Desert Tan. Also, having said that, I do not think the DJ was ever sold in anything except the Desert Tan, but I *might* be wrong there.

SP, I've seen a pic or two of a black bladed with black canvas handle non-Desert Jack...

Hmm, you learn sumpthin new everyday. Gonna have to go look for those pics. A black/black Jack would be pretty sweet. (And I'd call it the Black Jack!!! :D)

I think it was in the batch of the pics Bully posted ages ago, the ones with red background. And I think I saw a different pic on one of the forums...

iirc, those never saw production.

I betcha a few have ended up in secret collections for sure. :) Stealth Rats abound.

Whoa, look at all the reactions!! I figured I'd leave this alone for a while and check in every now and then... Feeling embarrassed now :o

Thank you all for educating this ratter a little on colour variation :thumbup: Your opinion is quite uniform: the colours are NOT the same. Ah well, I guess the hunt for another Desert Jack to offer mine some companionship is on then :D

Infocus2006: I fully understand what you mean, it's just one of those blades that once you pick one up, you don't want to put it down again! Incredible ergo's, to me it really doesn't feel like a 6 incher, while still maintaining a slender outline from tip to pommel. I'm very happy indeed with it!!

Again, thanks all for your help!

(BTW: I also wish the Swamp would bring the M7 in a regular release...:hopelessness:)
