What makeshift traps can I make in the middle of Iraq to catch a cat that keeps gettng in our garbage. I would set a snare, but I have no trees nearby to tie them to. I can't do a pit trap, because there are Marines that go up and down this area. I was hoping someone could teach me a knot that would only tighten (ala a constrictor knot, but used as a snare) or else some other limited resource ideas.

Hey Bearblade,

Can't you get two big Iron bars deep enough in the sand so they don't move when you snare the cat? I think that that's one option, the other option is to poison it, but I don't know whether that is what you really want?
You can always try a Cage trap aswell, I don't know how to explain it but if you try to get the cat into a small cage that closes automaticly when she gets in you might have a chance of catching it alive.
If nothing helps, just start feeding it, that way she'll stay out of the garbage and you might have a squad pet!

Here 's a pic I found on the internet, it's not exactly what I mean, but It will help you to get an Idea of what I mean.

Oh yeah, I saw you're in the us marine corps, I've got a question for you aswell, but could you send me an e mail, that way I can contact you. My e mail adress is spider@weapons.be

cats are very hard to domesticate... dogs are much easier.
If you snare it, expect to be scratched and bitten. If bitten, expect to get rabies shots. You're better off feeding it a 5.56 pill.

Don't you have any claymores?:)

Why not rig a box and stick trap, but make sure there is enough weight on the top of the box to contain the cat?

Ditto that! If that is not possible then a crate of some sort could be converted to a traditional "rabbit box" style trap I would imagine. (Followed by the above suggestion of course.) If you are near a large fixed object (building/vehicle) then some fatal traps could be rigged with weight and trigger.

Poison some food, it's silent and quickly. If you catch it with a snare or box it'll make alot of noice and I don't know exactly where you guys are stationed but if you guys are in a covert position (situation) you can't afford a cat to attrackt the enemy's attention!

make a figure four trap. If you don't want to kill it with the deadfall, use a box.

I would not suggest poison as it is extremely painful way to go. However, if tactical necessities call for it, then you have no choice.

I'm not allowed to shoot them, but I was contemplating anti-freeze. The cat screaming isn't a problem, I plan to club it to death if need be (we brought axes, sledges, etc. and I can get a handle off one). I've suggested dropping a vehicle on it, but that has been vetoed. I'll most likely do it at night for 2 reasons: (1) the cat is around at night and (2) too many eyes during the day to see it.

Once you get it trapped, you could always practice your two fingered eye gouging technique. :footinmou

Feed it. It will love you, and spread pro American sentiment to the other cats, ensuring a smooth adoption of democracy by all Iraqi cats. :D

Actually, I had a cat in Northern Iraq that we fed MRE's every day. It became our track mascot, and when we left, it was the fattest cat in Iraq. A Kurd probably killed and ate it.

If it must be snared, sink a stake and do a simple snare loop with wire. Put the bait up where it has to jump to it so it hangs itself.

Contact your local SPCA branch. There's a good chance they'll loan you a humane trap and give you instructions on how to use it.
