This is just a little something I wanted to ''share with the class''.

I'm sure you smart people have figured this out already...but I wanted to address a element Sky puts on his sheaths...that aint readily apparent as to the function at first. As you all know, Sky's sheath retention straps (on some models) have a bit of shockcord. I never thought about what it was for before I ordered it...but the more I carry and use this sheath, the more I appreciate how ingenious and clever this tiny bit of 'cord is!

have you figured out how clever our boy Sky is yet? If not...

Dang thats just SMART! I never realized until I had Sky's sheath how aggravating it is to have the retention strap in the way when sheathing and unsheathing the blade on other leather sheaths...plus you end up slicing into the leather....this simple addition to the strap is a stellar correction to that problem!

I know it is nothing grand in the large scale of things..but I wanted to point it out.

Attention to detail is what sets people apart, no matter what the industry. That's a great idea!

Yeh that shock cord is a real pleaser. Nick uses it too on his scout stuff. Nothing like not having to worry about slicing off the retention strap unsheathing it. That's a big piece of mind.

Nick did that one my BK9 sheath I got a year or so ago (moved it to the BK2 scout sheath before I got stupid with leather dye). It's an awesome feature. Flip the snap and it pulls up out of the way. Doesn't seem like much till you compare it to one that doesn't have it.

The devil is in the details! How many products have y'all owned that would/could have been perfect if it wasn't for one tiny thing that was wrong or flawed?

I hadn't realized Nick does that too....but It's a smart addition to a sheath regardless of maker lol

Speaking of..there's a certain 9 sheath taht is just awesome..I'm gonna go eyeball/drool on that picture some more lol

I know that is featured on Hedgehog Leatherworks sheaths.... love it. Planning to order a skystorm sheath or three at some point.

I've noticed it and I don't have one of Sky's sheaths yet! I think Hedgehog sheaths have it to, but those are several times the MSRP of the knife they fit, so I'm going to stick with Sky and Nix for all my leathery knife needs! Same quality, much more competitive price!

I the pouches that Sky puts on his scout and larger belt/dangler sheaths is also nice, I like the modularity (real word, chrome doesn't think so....) of them the most.

Yeah, Paul's sheaths were the first one's I remember with the shockcorded retention straps, but you're right...waaaaay too much dinero. They are top quality for sure, but I'm with you, I'd rather stick with the makers on the forum...

This. Absolutely agreed.

Yay, my first and second positive quotes! Now I just need to say something sigworthy and my life is complete!

I am not a big fan of leather sheaths, BECAUSE i have cut the strap off, a few different times, rendering the sheath useless until repaired. This is a feature i first saw on a HHLW sheath. He uses a dual shock cord setup & it is patented i think. It is an excellent idea & a feature that everyone should incorparate into the strap on leather sheaths.

That being said, i absolutely LOVE SkyStorm's work as well as Goose-52's work. When i do buy leather, it will be from them.

Thanks for the review Thrill!

I got smart after I cut one or two of my own off playing with scout sheaths, It gets kind of annoying. :D If anyone has the older design you can send it to me for a free upgrade.

Not the first or probably last to use this method. Hedgehog has a design patent on his sheath, same as I do on the hawkbill design that I use on a lot of my sheaths. I have some of everyone's sheaths, leather, kydex, cordura you name it. One because I like knives and sheaths and two so I don't unintentionally step on someones design toes. Everyone has their own unique style that I can appreciate though I do have a few wtf sheaths around here somewhere that make the factory sheaths seem a blessing.

I do a LOT of BK2 sheaths, I couldn't fathom charging people 3 bills for a sheath. If/when I do they will be one off unique works with exotic leathers and other such oddball stuff. I have some weird stuff coming wait and see.
