Been a while since I've posted. I was watching a Travel Channel TV program this weekend about Afarr (spelling?) tribesmen in Ehtiopia. While the program was about wedding customs what caught my interest was the arms seemingly all men carried. Besides the ubiquitous AK-47, each man had a large knife / short sword which looked a whole lot like a khukri carried in a horizontal mounted sheath. This blade would not have seemed out of place in the HI lineup. Interesting how good design ideas seem to pop up all over.

I've heard from old Africa hands that some of the village smiths there make a knife that looks a lot like a khukuri and they use the same methods and techniques that the kamis of Nepal use.

The design has been around for a long time and appears in a lot of different places -- because it works!
