I wasn't sure how to start this, but let me say that I have been an HI supporter for a while. I have been really surprised and pleased at all of the new models even though they're really not to my taste ie non Khuk. I am a Khukuri lover at heart. Tonight I was bored and went to look at one of the other big Nepali Khukuri suppliers and was kind of surprised at all of their new models. What I really liked was a couple that were made with more modern western practical style handles. I would really like to see HI go this direction for some models and diversity and I think that it would really help HI's business since handle design/construction has always seemed to be a major drawback or subject of discussion. Really just food for thought and possibly a way to help HI sales some. At least I think that the formites would snatch them up and it might bring in some new blood which are hesitant because of the traditional type handles.

Suggestions never hurt. We here at the forum have to remember that, while we may love modding our handles and knives to custom-fit us, most people do want an out-of-box perfect solution. While there's no such thing IMO (or rarely), this is not a bad idea. More selection in handle styles, not just materials, would probably be a boon for HI. The only variable would be getting the Kamis to do it like we want. I know trans-continental design communication can be time-consuming and can try patience. Moreover, it would be a burden on Yangdu, god bless her, who does such a great job to bring us what we want. Still, more selection is always good and would probably help HI's business.

Good stuff.

I just know if those other guys can do it Yangdu and HI definitely can and probably do a better quality job too. I know a couple of the designs look kind of like handles I was considering paying someone to do with mine when some extra money came around.

Would one of the handles look like this? This is actually the first Nepalese made khuk I ever bought, back in 2000 or 2001, before I found HI. It was made by the now defunct GH that used to be on BF. Very comfortable handle.

Edited to add that one of the nice things with this khuk from a manufacturing standpoint is no need for a bolster. That would cut time and effort by a good amount I bet.

I wasn't going to name the company out of courtesy but I'm sure everyone here would find it. I was looking at Khukuri House http://www.khukurihouseonline.com/Content/Catalog/Browse/?CID=9a1158154dfa42caddbd0694a4e9bdc8|5b42
They have one called the American Eagle(Freedom) and another one called the Brown Special (Tiger) and the KH Marshall (Rojwal) which even has a rubber handle. I would love to see these offered from HI. Especially the American Eagle. These designs along with my trust in HI would go together great in my book.
