For the last year or two because of heart and mobility issues I just don't leave the house near as much as I used to. But the need of a good knife does NOT go away but the type and/or model does change slightly. I have a loss of use of my left arm and hand (100%SC Navy vet) and because of that many common tasks are more difficult for me than the average user. I have found a small very sharp Buck like a 526 becomes more useful than if I was outside working or normal day to day tasks. Even a small multitool, especially with scissors, gets a lot of use for little tasks like opening alcohol prep pads, bandaids, eyeglass cleaners ect..But I would guess just opening mail is what most folks use there "Desk Buck" for. I spend a LOT of time at my desk so I use mine for a lot of different tasks. I also keep a decent variety right at hand. Today it's mostly full size folders. A 112 with a blade cutout and my new Magancut 110 plus a real favorite my BCCI club 111 from 2007 with Elk. That was my first 'Desk Buck' and it has about 8 years total duty! Once for 4 years running just because I like it so much. They vary over the years and starting around 2018 I started cycling some of my fancy 112's for limited desk duty.
I bet a lot of yall keep a few Bucks on YOUR desk just to have one or more handy! I think it's more common than you would first think. Same goes for what I call my "Truck Buck" that usually is a bigger fixed blade Buck along with a 112/110 folder. For years I kept a Buck camping kit with a hatchet 'Just in case' and ended up using it more than once to clear a path when a big tree had fell across the road. So what's on your desk?
