As I play with, sharpen, and change out my carry knives, I ultimately end up with a strange collection of stuff on my desk slid under my monitor until they finally get moved back to their proper home. I have heard of some people having a bowl of knives, etc. Does anyone else collect stuff around within easy reach? Curious if others have a collection on the desktop, bedside, counter top, etc. Where do your resting knives gather and accumulate?

I have exactly two "desktop knives", a Victorinox Classic SD that sits on my desk, and is primarily used to trim my nails and open letters, and a Stanley 10-499 utility knife that sits in the pen jar on my kitchen table that is used to open packages. It really just saves me from diving into my handbag whenever I need a knife, but there are always at least two knives in my handbag, sometimes as many as five, if you count my two lunch knives (a Buck Diamondback fixed blade for cutting baguettes, one Snow Peak titanium butter knife). I carry a Victorinox Rambler, a Gerber Harsey AirFrame, and sometimes a fixed blade knife, depending on where I am going, and what I am doing.

In or on my work station this red-hot second. From the top down:

1st row: An old Klein Tools folder that my father gave me decades ago.
2nd row left: A Schrade Old-Timer 930T that came as part of a TSA lot that I purchased abt 10 years back
2nd row right: A Gerber LST 400 that was OEM'ed by Shindawa, It also came in the TSA lot. It's red, not orange btw
3rd row left: A Victorinox Swiss Army Tinker. (red, not orange)
3rd row right: A Wenger Swiss Army Tinker that came to me without grip slabs , again in the TSA lot. (red, not orange)
4th row: A Schrade [edit: KERSHAW] Tremor assisted-opening knife
Last row: A letter-opener (the guy I bought it from insisted it is a dagger, and I disagree.)

Also, there's a fine old Gerber BMF, complete with original compass and sheath, that's boxed up and ready to go to a buyer, as soon as I receive his funds:

What appears to be rust is actually a discoloration resulting from prolonged contact with the Gerber sheath. There's some kind of reaction that takes place between a chemical in the sheath and the blade coating. It is unique to BMF and corresponding LMF sheaths/knives. If you have one, DON'T leave it in contact with the sheath!!!!
