Lots of people love their Beckers, especially popular is the BK2. Often cited as one reason for their love for it is it's 'indestructible' nature. Which when you actually feel it in your hands you can really feel like Thor with his hammer.

So my question is has anyone actually broke one (BK2 et al)? If so how? Any pics?

I have seen 3 in my time on this forum. 2 were bad heat treats where the skeleton handle fractured, and 1 was because somebody was abuse (trying to baton with an axe head in winter - metal on metal = bad). Considering the factory pumps out quite a few a year... 3 or so ain't bad

I remember the axe fiasco! I do believe I recall the others you mentioned as well... really not surprising to see a few broken, given all the use--even abuse--so many take and just keep coming back for more. My 16 is one of may favorite all around knives.

Im yet to see a broken BK2, I have seen one with a good dent on the spine (It's actually mine), formerly my Brother in laws who must have battoned with a metal pipe.

Anything can and had been broken, Just need the right circumstance. Stupid can be a factor.

Throwing hardened steel just ain't good.

That's a break and a half Moosez! Ouch!

Guy named Marsden was using it as a throwing knife.

Lesson??? Don't thrown hardened steel unless you want it to break. One throw and you will get micro fractures. After that......they just get bigger.....

Some BK2s have broken at the handle, a few BK9s have chipped and snapped their blades, at least one BK16 has been bent at a 25 degree angle, and about three BK3s have been snapped under very heavy usage by professionals.

That's all I know about.

I remember seeing another post of yours where you broke a Kabar USMC. You should try TIG then MIG welding them and carefully grinding off the excess. It would at least make them useable again. I know it might be Frankensteins of knives but.. Just an idea??

Oh, that BK2 isn't mine, I just have photos of it.

I could weld them back, but to honest, I have others to replace them. My 1217 broke right at the transition from blade to stick tang, a not uncommon failure point. That knife served me well for it's entire life, and deserved the dignified end it endured. And it's not without some irony......I had just bought a new 1217 that day. Seemed it waited til it's relief showed up.

there's been a couple few BK6s that "shattered"... chopping frozen xmas trees is not a good idea - rock hard knots... same for BK9s

very very very few CinCinnati models broken; we had a guy break a Brute (before it was BK1), was hammering on some steel pipe or something by mistake

bit of this, bit of that. over a many decades period? not many breaks.

even less if you skip the abused ones

or the deliberately sabotaged? :D
