Anyone here make their own detail wheels, and detail wheel attachment? I built both, and they work great... Except the rubber I used is soft, and I don't have it bonded well to the spindle. When it heats up, which it does running about 10 times faster than my main contact wheel, the arbor breaks free, and the wheel won't track. Anyone have ideas for a home made wheel? I wil probably try a solid wood or metal one before throwing some bucks KMGs way. Any ideas where I can source hard rubber, or how to bond it to the spindle?

I've used rubber rollers from used machinery to make some small wheels found at a scrap metal yard, machined them to size and added bearings been using them for several years...I have considered using a casting rubber to coat (bond to) aluminum wheels and machine to size . Has anyone else tried that?.

I have taken the rubber that comes on the arbors for sanding drums and pressed a bronze bushing into them. I have run these on a shoulder bolt. If you keep the bushing oiled they run for a long time.

steierknives, that is what I am doing except I mounted them on 3/8" bolt, and attached bearings. I tworks for about 10 minutes then shakes loose. I stretched the rubber over wet two sided tape, so it is somewhat glued int here.

Thanks for those links guys!
