The dreaded first post, I need help with finding out some knife
steel info, I want to expand my knowledge on steel, but cannot find
a website which had good information on all of the steels being used
today, any help would be greatly appreciated.

All that info was great, but I'm wondering where I get a listing
of a rockwell hardness chart for all the steels. Anyone got a
clue?

There's an excellent book: Metallurgy Fundamentals, by Danial A. Brandt and J.C. Warner, published by Goodheart-Willcox Company,1999. It's available from Barnes and Nobles at www.bn.com

It's a very detailed overview of the entire steel-making process, written in a straightforward mannner. If you can read charts and a few simple algebraic equations, you can really learn alot. You don't need an engineering degree to get through it.

remember.. HRC is not the best indication of Cutting ability or edgeholding.

Rockwell hardness is also not a factor of which steel you use, but how you Heat-treath it. You can use D2 at HRC 55 and you can use D2 at HRC 64.

There are however lists of optimal HRC values given a certain steel for knives. Is that what you are referring to? I 've seen it somewhere, but i dunno where.

Greetz and take care, bart.
