the Devil's in the details.

How many of us have looked forward to getting a good stock knife or tool, and it is huge, or tiny, or just - hellidunno - funky, ...all because you never got a chance to look at these steely delights in multiple views...? - i'd wager there's a lot of us, and i am going to try to show some of the details and considerations of Tramontinas that i haven't noticed elsewhere. - apologies to any buddy that covered some of my bases already.

God bless them all, but one thing that drives me insane is that folks who do reviews never seem to give the weight of the tools they are reviewing, or they neglect to indicate the nature of the handles' construction, balance, etc.

with the voiced affirmation that whenever we point a finger, three more fingers always point back at us - there are definitely too many good videos on the general subject of machetes to mention, and i applaud them and their authors' efforts generally.

- this video is more like a little vectorized catharsis on the things that i always want to know, that i don't seem to find elsewhere.

hope you enjoy.

great vid! i agree on the sort of info being shared is sometimes lacking...i recently did some vids on my modified 18" tram vs the ESEE Lite Machete out of the box.

Nice video 'Ol Bud....I like my 14" Tram, I sanded the grip down a little & touched the factory edge up & it's actually a nice machete for $6.99 !!!!
You wont find a better deal on a machete ;)

how'd ya decide to go about sanding the handle, brother?

i'm thinking about taking about 1/32" off of the entire handle surface on my personal machete, and putting my Snake Skin micro-Micarta veneer over it all.

i agree on the Tramontinas - we are definitely going to carry them - very impressive steel too.... - when everyone was going crazy for Scandis and Moras (which i think are great, but i like something a bit stouter as a primary), all i could think of for the price was a Tramontina 14 incher with a little work and a multi-purpose machete - now i am finally getting around to it....

Don't forget to post pics if you do!:thumbup:

nice job Vec:thumbup:

i have the tram bolo and it is a great chopper with better performance than more expensive designs except for the handle. i got some hot spots on the pinky finger from the short handle. a smoother transition instead of the butt drop would be a better design imo or an actual return like on the cold steel machetes.

Nothing fancy...just took some sandpaper & hand sanded all the "sharp edges" off the handle, keep on working it until it fit my hand comfy :p They will take a wicked edge !

nice idea about the veneer....im way to lazy for all that...all i did was sand and fill the areas that affect my pinch grip...anything else was waytoo much work :)

i still need to work on the ESEE and get it pinch grip comfy :)

looks like everyone has ther own way of doing it.

'sounds like some good videos to cook up.

is it just me, or does that Bolo keep asking for a buttcap on a slightly re-shaped handle?

vec

Man, I gotta find somewhere local that sells trams... I know their cheap online but I have moral issues with paying more for shipping than I do for the chete! I have one tram and love it, makes me want to get more!

i really like the polypro on the 18 latin....that in wood on the bolo would tickle my fancy

thats why you buy more than 1 bro :)

i bought 4 i think...they all still work! :)

also vec i wouldnt mind a more ESEE LM style butt on the bolo....not as pronounced but sort of minimalistic...its fun to whip around by the butt....

i really think that owning multiple machetes is a good idea.

government is eventually going to outlaw them, i reckon - they are already doing it in parts of Canada (Toronto? i can't remember now.)

- it would be nice to not have to make them yourself, although that'd be a smart skill to have IMHO.

that's my take on it....;

don't be a sucker.

Thanks Vec, well done:thumbup: Are those stock tramontinas? Those handles look better than my older one.

yep.

they are stock, brother.

i like the inset rivets (if you have to have rivets) - that suggests some interesting handle mod possibilities with a consistent flare towards the butt - kinda like a Leuko.

....i think i am in trouble...:D:thumbup:
