I don’t spend a lot of time here so please excuse me if this has been covered ad nauseam or if I’m off base here…. but, why are demented ball ramps not standard on high end knives?

I’m fiddling with my new Spyderco Nirvana and the transition when the detent ball hits the blade could be so much smother.

There is a Break In with just about anything mechanical ~ Some times what we think will we feel right off the Bat with a new purchase and get dissapointed ~ Just takes a bit of adjustment.

Hogue has a built in ramp on the blade that allows the ball to ride smoothly up to the detent. Quite a well thought out design.

I have created several detent ramps (one example below). I start them using a small, half-round diamond file, and finish by wrapping a small drill bit with 2500 sandpaper.

These are the files I use, they can be found on Amazon for $15, search for "Diamond File FIL-974.00", the seller is Eurotool.
