Detent problem?

I just shipped my sebenza 25 off to the shop. The detent had become so bad that it became uncomfortable to try and flick open. I would even resort to using both fingers to deploy the blade. I know how to open a knife. I would still Edc it. But every time I needed to cut something I would hesitate to pull it out. And yes I cleaned it. So it's off to Idaho

Maybe you should have waited until you got the knife back to make a post, so you don't leave us hanging! And hey, it could have been just the opposite and fallen open in your pocket. Not that they would send one out like that, but it could have been worse :-).

Could have just tightened the pivot to much. Maybe you tried that did not say

Why not adjust a pivot screw? Its a 25 not 21.
Oh,and you can you a second hand to open a knife, not a big deal. ;)

CRK has great customer service, even if the issue is the owner's fault. They will fix up your blade and get it back to you in perfect working order. I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!

Fellas and Gals,

As hard as it is to resist, I think the best thing to do with open-ended, largely negative posts, is to let them drift off into the bottom of the thread heap. On a personal level I would really hope we can keep this forum from degrading into a bunch of flame wars. New people will show up with bad things to say, but chances are the great customer service at CRK will win them back over. There are more people on this forum posting how they have come back to CRK, than posting about how they will never own another one. Just sayin.

Jaxxsun, please post your experience when you get your knife back. As it stands now, this thread just seems a little bit like trolling, at least in my opinion. Owning a 25, and knowing exactly how the detent works, I don't see how this can't be a problem with pivot adjustment, but maybe there is a burr that has formed on the edge of the detent hole, or maybe your ball has a scratch on it. Certainly there are complaints about the concept/design of the 25, but I have yet to read one that fails it on it's operation or manufacturing quality. For the most part, Chris seems to have got the bugs worked out before release of the knife.

I stripped out a screw and called to buy a new one. After giving my information they sent me a new screw free. Best customer service ever. They will win him back. I will put money on pivot was to tight.

Yea, that was a pivot thing, not a detent problem. I'm sure it was worth paying the postage and taking the risk of it getting lost at this busy time of year though, good luck. :p:thumbup:

My 21 had a REALLY firm detent. It probably still does (by some people's standards), but I don't seem to notice it any more.

I wasn't trying to sound like a complainer. I was just bummed to be with out my 25 during the holidays. Carving the ham will not be as much fun. The 25,is my best knife and my dream edc

I tried to loosening the pivot pin. And I do not like using two hands to open my edc.

Was it like that from day one or did it develop the issue later on ? It's just the detent strength is pretty much a constant and is a factor of the lock bar spring strength. It's not something that changes over time, the travel smoothness does of course, but the amount of pressure to start the blade moving and to overcome the detent doesn't change much if at all over the life of the knife. :)

It became gradually tougher. I looked at the ball as best that I could. With my eyes I could not be sure. I only have one sebenza. No big deal. It will get sorted out. I am now looking at getting a small 21 to fill the void.

Your knife will come back sorted out. Enjoy picking out a small 21! It'll be a nice compliment to the 25.

Well guys. UPS dropped off my Sebenza 25 back from Chris Reeve and Company. And I am happy to report that they were able to correct my detent problem. It opens like new and smooooth. And speaking of new. It was given the spa treatment. I did not request or expect it. It looks like new. I put it away though. I debaiting weather to sell or trade it to get a small 21. My Direware was delivered yesterday too :)
