Is when you drop your favorite EDC and crack the scale. I was cleaning the battery terminals on my pop-up and I dropped my yeller Mooremaker. The back scale cracked at the spring pin. It still feels solid. I put a stripe of super glue along the crack in hopes it would wick into it. It's just a hairline.:grumpy:
I am almost debating drilling maybe three holes along the crack and filling them with epoxy.

Did the same thing with a Case trapper. Lost a piece though. thinking of sending it for a re-scale. Sorry, man- that's a drag

Yeah, just adds character. Proves to future generations that the knife was loved enough to actually be used. I wouldn't worry till a chunk comes off, and only then if it leaves a sharp spot to scratch my hand... OK, might be a little off about 1/4 or more of a scale leaving in a drop- that'd be into the realm of it looking a little abused.

I know what you mean.

A few years before he passed on, dad dropped his beloved peanut on a sidewalk. He'd come down with arthritis in his hands and a few other places, and he fumbled opening his pocket knife and it hit the cement. Cracked the off side scale bad. He was what I would have callled devestated. Like he'd harmed an old friend.

He carried a little Christy knife for the last few years there in his 70's. Said he didn't deserve the Case anymore.

Thats sad JK....

Sorry to hear about your MM Steve. I know thats one of your favorites.
Who knows how long they will have that material available, I think I would send it in and have it replaced now, instead of waiting. Its to nice a knife to have it buggered up

I don't think the epoxy is a bad idea. Some of those 5 minute epoxies hold like iron. I've fixed scales on beater slipjoints with it before.

Oooo Steve, Ouch! Sorry to get this news, pard.

I'd do this first..

And consider having this done and make contact with MM in the meantime to get costs..

Or just start searching for an exact identical on the secondary market to put up and just continue using the original.

Best,
Anthony

Thanks for the replies guys. It seems fairly stable. I think I'm going to leave it alone. If it gets worse, I'll do the epoxy and drill tiny holes. That should add some character.
