I have been searching and searching for days on-line but i cannot get a straight answer. I am getting a ladder pattern Damascus blade for my large 21 sebenza and I would like to know the following 2 things as the rest of my questions have basically been answered:

1. what is the core steel used?
2. how many layers is the blade made from?

I have emailed Devin Thomas but I am pretty sure he is up to his eyeballs in knife making and doesn't have time to respond to everyone who emails him! But if anyone knows the answers for the above questions that would be great!!

You can find information about the steels here on Devin Thomas' site:link. I believe CRK uses the stainless damascus so it should be AEB - L and 304.

As for how many layers, I have no idea. :p

I have been on his site and I knew that CRK uses stainless but I wasn't sure exactly what the core metal was...I am not sure how up-to-date Devin Thomas keeps his site...but you're probably right - it is mostly likely AEB - L and 304.

As for the layers - I am getting numbers ranging from 45 to 200...it really doesn't matter to me how many layers...I am more wanting to know out of curiosity and to understand the makeup of my knife as best as I can.
