Who here is an expert in Devin Thomas damascus sold to CRK? I'm picking up a bronze spirograph regular that has been "re-issued" a birth certificate, so I'm not sure how old it is. I'd guess by the grind style that it is ~2007, but the owner said it's about 14 years old. @2000? When it arrives I'll look under the scales for a clue.

Anyhow, the certificate says it's "Devin Thomas Damascus Bronze Spirograph". I've done a little Googling and can't seem to determine if it is stainless, carbon, or some sort of hybrid. I intend to use this knife. What is to be expected?

Is there a need to be more diligent with maintenance to prevent corrosion? How will it take an edge when compared to S30V? Anything interesting to know?

Thanks folks. This will be my first Damascus, so all info will be appreciated.

Congrats on that one my friend. I was working on a deal for that one, but you offered more than the asking price and I was not going there. I told him no hard feelings, it is what it is.

It is a rare one. Never seen bronze spirograph. CRK as done many short runs with damascus over the years, so this is not uncommon. As for how special that bronze damascus was, Devin Thomas would probably be the best one to ask. The inside scales are blank, so its date sterile.

I liken DT Stainless damascus to S30V. Holds the same edge.

HC Damascus will rust, so needs to be lubrication of some sort.

I always liken SS damascus for edc use, but for quite some time it only came in plainer styles, while the HC could be had in many exotic patterns thus making them more for show. ALL will work, but just more care is needed for the HC is all.

Yeah, lol, I'll be paying a pretty penny for it. Have you edc'd any colored Damascus blade? How does the coloring hold up?

I don't normally favor the larger crk over my fav the mnandi, but i was also tempted to buy this one just because of the blade which I really liked, nice purchase!!

I can't help with that steel, but I would assume that it performs like my other Damascus blades: takes a nice keen edge and holds it for a reasonable amount of time. Please post a picture when you get it!!

If I'm not mistaken, the colored Damascus from the early years was not made to use. As the colored finish would wear off quickly.

If you wanted one to use often and stand up to lots of EDC use, I feel the stainless damascus is better. I have used the SS damascus and it will mark up a tiny bit, but you gotta be right on top of it to see. It wears very well. The HC, I have them but do not have EDC experience with them, so don't know how durable the finish is.

You got it for a good price either way.

Nyefmaker - I just requested to join your facebook group. Thanks in advance. Another cool place to hang out.

The colored Damascus is full carbon. I believe all DT Damascus is now stainless. Nice Seb

Yep,..That is definitely a nice Seb! Congrats

Beautiful knife ....someday I will own one of those unusual damascus blades .. But until then the regular CRK's will do!

After a bunch of reading, it looks like the colored blades circa 2000 are 1095&nickel. Available colors were blue and bronze. I might have passed if I had known that at the time. It's definitely rare and IMO beautiful. Guess it is going to be my first bona-fide safe queen. I guess if it has a really nice lockup and a smooth swing I could always use it until the finish is crappy, then strip it with something. Think the blade could be re-etched after removing that coloring?
