Does anyone know what steels he uses in his double stainless banded ladder damascus? I ask, because I am interested in knowing what type of performance I can expect. I e-mailed him but did not receive a response.

He may have changed but a few years ago it was AEBL/304

You are correct. I found it at his web site. I must have missed it before. Listed as AEB-L and 304.

He also will use 440C instead of the AEBL. I have both in the shop. In either case, I have nothing but great things to say about it. I do my own heat treating and the consistancy is wonderful. I have been using there steels exclusivly for the last year or so. I have a bar of damasteel in the shop getting rusty. I'm not knocking anyone elses material. I just have a lot of confidence in their quality. There's no worse feeling than having to scrap something you've put so much of yourself into because of a flaw that shows up in heat treat.

What's the difference between Damasteel and Damascus, if any?
