DeWalt 18V battery packs, refurb or new?

My DeWalt 18V battery packs are dead. The new dual battery packs are ~$100 and apparently 2400mah NiCad packs. I see various refurb battery 'groups' at 1400~2000mah for ~$25~$40 plus shipping.

Are Lion or NiMH batteries or refurb packs a good option? Am I better off just burning out the NiCad packs?

While I don't overheat or draw down my packs, other people occasionally do which is what I think killed the last three packs.

TIA

I think the best choice is to rebuild the packs. Both from an environmental and economical standpoint.
I have Dewalt 14.4 tools and I have rebuilt the batteries numerous times.

Milwaukee 4.0 xc batteries have really impressed me. Especially paired with the new brushless tools.

OK where do I find the best replacement batteries? Who has the most capacity?

TIA,
Sid

I would check your local Batteries plus, our company has well over 100 cordless power tools and we always had our dewalt ones rebuilt at batteries plus. But sometimes it's cheaper to just buy a new drill/impact combo kit that includes 2-3 batteries than to rebuild.
