I'm starting a second thread to avoid this getting overlooked.
In the previous thread I noted increased blade thickness and sheath fit.
After spending more time with this knife,I now realize it is warped.
I didn't notice it at first but did notice that the grind line at the clip was crooked.
I thought that it was throwing off my perception but the more I studied it,the warp became obvious. I then laid it on a flat surface with the blade laying flat past the guard to confirm it.
One side noticeably lays more flat than the other.

The blade thickness is different but the warp may also further explain the fit of it in older model sheaths.
I should send it back but I think I'll keep it in case the increased blade thickness is an anomaly.
I don't know how things currently are at GSM Steel but I'd bet this one would have been designated a 2nd in times past.
Hopefully this is a fluke and not indicative of an entire run.

Just to add to the data pool, my first Drop Forged Bowie (nine-inch version, that is) also had a warped blade. I purchased it shortly after it was released. I lived with it for a couple of days, but it was noticable enough to bother me and I returned it to the dealer. I bought another from a different retailer and it wasn't warped.

I agree that a warped blade would have relegated a knife to the Second category back in Lynn's day. In fact, I've seen Cold Steel Seconds on which the only defect I could find was warp. To my way of thinking, visible blade warp means the knife should never leave the factory!

I caved and decided to return the warped Bowie.
I was getting irritated every time I looked at it.
At first I was planning to ask for an exchange but after considering the possibility of getting another warped one I chose to get a refund.
I'm wondering if there is an entire run of warped ones.

I hope this poor example of QC isn't where things at GSM Steel are headed but it wouldn't surprise me.
