DF2 - H1 SE vs VG10 SE for a running knife

Just after a serrated spyderco to try. I'm keen to get another Dragonfly 2 but I'm on the fence between the black and slightly more discrete VG10 serrated (better in jeans etc but not the primary use, other knives for that). Or the rust resistant H1 serrated.

I'm not into fishing but I'm a heavy sweater and run ultramarathons. So the knife will get plenty damp with sweat for hours on end a week on training runs. I don't mind a little maintenance, but I don't want to have to wash and oil after each run. The knife will also get taken on multi day backpacking trips etc.

H1 SE. I carry a spydie when running (lately the ARK) and used to carry a VG10 Delica, but constantly got little orange spotting on it. I now carry one of the smaller Salt folders or the ARK.

Between corrosion resistance and lighter weight, go with the Salt version for sure. If the yellow really bothers you then you can rit dye it any color you want.

Cool, thanks for the replies.

Just to confirm, Serrated is the go on H1 isn't it. Reading up it seems to be the preferred version for a H1 knife.

It really is. It's like carrying a folding chainsaw in your pocket.

I must admit it is easier to peel an apple with PE, but I like SE more and more all the time. I guess if you have two pockets you could take both. Just in case you had to cut down an apple tree.:D

I would say definitely go for H1 for the corrosion resistance when sweat is involved.

I've used the Dragonfly H1 SE during mountain biking sessions and it was perfect in that role. No maintenance required.

I've been running with a black Pac Salt for about 3-4 yrs. H1 in PE is definitely not going to stand up to heavy long term cutting tasks however it does take an edge easily and is a breeze sharpen. My next runner will probably be an ARK or serrated Tasman.

I perspire heavily and live in an extremely humid environment. I've tried other steels and have always encountered some rust, especially with screws and hardware. Salts are failproof under these conditions. Can't wait to give the Chef a try!

H1 is the only way, when sweat and humidity are present! Pick your posion: Tasman, Ladybug, Dragonfly, Salt I, Pacific, ARK...

Won't notice them until you need them, and then they'll just perform

Sal has said many times that serrated H-1 holds an edge exceptionally well. If I wanted a serrated blade, and the knife I wanted was available in both H-1 and "something else", I'd buy the H-1 version.
