Towards the end of the Second World War, a bladed bayonet was developed, originally intended for use with the Sten gunbut sharing the same mount as the No. 4's spike bayonetand subsequently the No. 7 and No. 9 blade bayonets were issued for use with the No. 4 rifle as well

The No. 7 Mk. I/L was a very innovative and complex design, with a unique swiveling pommel. Part knife bayonet and part socket bayonet, the No. 7 Mk. I/L would mount to the Lee Enfield No. 4 rifleand the Mk. V Sten submachine gun.
