hello all
just wanted to post a new thread about these distincive blades. i have a valiantco damascus dha which i love, once i had striped off that acid etchand polished it off. i prefer damascus to be a subtle thing of the light, not glaring! its "reasonably" sharp, after the various grades of sandpaper. i have been hankering after a smaller darb to acompany it, but the only smaller one i have found is on a site called "cozun". they claim they are hardened etc, but they look to gaudy and flimsy to me. make youre own minds up:http://cozun.com/Blades/TS01-09 pictures.htm

has anyone else ordered any blades from them, and do you think HI would make a mini for me? anyone else done this?

chris

I would like a modern Dha patterned after the one my Father brought home from WWII. I'm sure you have all seen them. I can post the link to their pictures if anyone is interested.

Thanks, Steve

cold steel's banshee is a modern dha version:

if you mean more traditional ones like mine:

they can be found occasionally on ebay if you keep your eyes open & weed out the trashy tourist models & 'pay by bankers draft only' vendors.

hi
i have been looking on ebay, and have found a few interesting bits. i emailed the seller and he says they may be hardened, but doest know for sure. what do you guys think?

Removed links to eBay, Yvsa.
Chris we're not allowed to link to eBay unless the auctions are ended and then for discussion purposes only

thanks you guys! i would love to have HI make me a mini darb, that way i would know for sure it was "real", hardened etc..

One of my gurus, Antonio Cejunior bought a blade from their Thailand "factory" and had it mounted and hardened. That was of course a full sized blade.
The page you linked to are for souvenir blades and, of course would be "gaudy and flimsy" ;)
You may want to look at a traditional style Thai dagger at

OK. Here is a like to my little website dedicated to my personal knives. Enter the site and page one has my Dad's kuks and the Dha's are at the bottom. Please disreguard the other pages.

Thanks for looking. I would really like a strong modern Dha patterned after these originals.

i have looked at the cozun site and they look ok, but shipping and payment from over there for me is a nightmare. i cam across this blade for sale somewhere, some of you might have seen it before..

i think it looks simple, but it does have that dark steel look, might be hardened. what do you think?

Point of fact: Paul Chen makes the Banshee, not Cold Steel.
It's my best soft target cutter, at least for now.:)

How well does it cut, and compared to what?
What is the handle made of? Looks cool.

Well,

I bought one of those 'bout 8-9 years ago on some market in a lost province around Supanburi/Thailand. Actually it was my first Darb like machete I provided myself, this among 2 other cheap and heavy fishing or hunting multipupose knives. That basic looking Darb seen above is made of very normal steel, couldn't say what kind, but definitely not hardened. I use it to cut my half dozen banana trees when those start annoying me - they grow so fast around here. The price I paid for that piece? Djee! It's nearly a decade ago but I seem to remember 't was like 4-5 dollars max. Look closely at the picture and see the pin fixing the blade, handle and 'guard' ring - it is actually a nail that was hit through.

So much to this.

Sorry bout the delay in replying, arty.
The cutting capability on soft targets (plastic milk jugs & pool noodles) is what I would consider excelent but the only comparison is the Chen Zatoichi.
The handle seems to be leather tape spiraled around. The original stickyness has worn off and I find it to be very tight and secure in my hand. YMMD
