Hello all, and again, I'm a newbie to the Forum and just posted my first thread over in the Balisong area, and have a couple more questions to ask about a couple of custom knives I have. The first is on a D'Holder knife that I bought around 1975-6 while at a Las Vegas Gun Show where D'Holder had a display. Think I paid $75 for it at the time and as you can see, used it a lot as a hunting knife; gutted out several bull elk with it. I know that I should have taken better care of it. Here's a couple of pictures of it:

The second picture shows how D'Holder carried the grain of the stag handle on into the forward part of the handle (I show this because D'Holder seemed to be really proud of that touch at the time). My questions are, is this knife still collectable in spite of it's condition, and can it be cleaned up by a knowlegdable guy so it's not so cruddy looking.
The second one is the yellow handled one on the right (the other is a 10 year old Cold Steel Peace Keeper, I think), that I bought to use in Cowboy Action Shooting matches; I think I paid about $100 for it. I have no idea who made it, but the blade is stainless and seems to keep a good edge, and workmanship is decent for what I bought it for. My question is, how do you determine a value for a knife like this, what do I look at to do so. Again, some pictures:

Thanks for any words of wisdom you can give me.

I would contact D'Holder on the first knife and see if he would work on it for you. The worst that can happen is that he says no! He is a pretty good guy.

You can clean them up using Flitz or Mother's polish. I would not do anything more than just clean them. Anything more destructive can ruin them. Flitz can clean up most of the stains and the bolsters.

the D'holder is a fantastic looking knife. Other one is ok, but not even 1/4 as nice as your hunter.
I use Turtle Wax chrome polish/rust remover and it works pretty good.
please DO NOT use sandpaper on those knives!

Wow, thanks Winterbear, that gives me a little info on the thing; I bought it at a Gun Show about 10-12 years ago and it didn't have any info with it. I just liked the looks of it, and it fit in with a Cowboy Action getup, so I bought it. And thanks for the hint on polishing stuff, Lorien, I was just trying to find some Flitz at a True Value store and this will give me another way to do it. Lot of help here.

You can get Flitz at most auto stores in the car polish section. I think that Walmart carries it, unless they discontinued it like everything else that they carry.

Just don't use anything more abrasive than Flitz or Mother's. Most car polish products would probably be OK.
