if this has been addressed already, i apologize...i looked through the threads the best i could and found nothing.

Im looking for a comprehensive set of pack-able sharpening stones, and was wondering if anyone had experience with the 3" DMT DiaSharp 'Credit Card' stones. Once i've got the cash to buy larger stones, the 3 inchers will stay in the pack....but until that time they will serve as both a wilderness, and at-home-sharpening system. Any feedback or other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I have one and it works well for me. Now that I have both though, for take along, I like the DMT diafolds. The fine/extra fine works very well even for pretty dull knives. I have picked up the whole set now. I like them all but the ceramic one does not seem to work all that well. Maybe it's just me.

thy work fine - but I, too, prefer the diafolds.
the CC sized ones can be glued to the bottom of an altoids tin, too - which the folders can't. :)

If you're looking for a portable solution, I would go for the Diafolds over the CC stones.

if i get enough of the Diafolds to cover a full extra-coarse to fine-coarse range, it'll cost roughly 60$ (amazon)...vs $25 for the coarse, medium, fine 3 stone set of CC.....is it worth the extra $30? Would i be covered with a single double sided fine/coarse DiaFold? (these will be for the upkeep of a Rat RC-3 & Wetterlings LHA)

You bet, that would do well for you. I am not knocking the CC size ones, they would work fine too and the cost is not bad at all. I am just a big fan of the diafolds. I find the 2x6 bench stone from DMT to be pretty portable as well.

I have from Ragweed. It's a diamond card with 2 sides. 600 and 1200 grit. It has done everything I wanted. Very pleased with it.

God Bless

i've read a few times that the 'broken' surface of the sharpeners arent as great as the solid top deal-eys....is that something that i should be taking into consideration when deciding, or is that really splitting hairs? (thanks again for all the help)
