Can anyone measure their Opinel no 6 lock ring and tell me what the diameter is?

I'm looking for a smaller, slim, lightwieght single blade folder. I'm sure the No 6 is lightweight, I'm just wondering how slim it actually is.

Thanks!

Can't tell you at the moment, but the N°6 is quite small. Tiny, IMO.

The widest part of the ring is about 11/16". Without a caliper I can't get any closer than that. The handle is a little less than that at its fattest point. You can slim it down a bit more by sanding the sides of the handle flat. I did that to a No.8, but didn't feel it was necessary with the No. 6. The greatest improvement in pocketability comes from rounding the heel.

It carries very nicely IMO.

Get a #6 Opinel Garden Knife.

There's also an Opinel Slim.

I am not sure the slim is available in size 6. On the Opinel-USA site there are slims in 8, 10, 12 and 15. There is a YouTube video titled Opinel no.6 Slim, but it shows a completely re-handled Opinel blade.

A guy with some 80-grit sandpaper and a couple of hours to spare could probably approximate the Slim handle profile on a 6. Just rounding off the heel and slimming the pommel can be done in less than half an hour. That includes removing the finish and sealing the wood with tung oil or beeswax.

The locking ring is .64 inches or 195 mm. The widest point on the handle is the end which is .97 inches. Weight of a Carbone bladed knife is 1 oz or 28 grams. Yes, I have both a caliper and a jewelers scale and looking for a reason to use them. I also have a few Opinels.

More tools are always justifiable ;)

For me the no.6 is the perfect urban carry opi, you can round the bottom of the handle and take off the lock ring, leaving it as a pure friction folder if you don't mind losing the locking mechanism

When I wear dress pants/slacks/suit, the N°6 with hardwood handle is what I carry.
