diamond abrasive

I was wondering, how come a diamond abrasive stone costs about $30-$50 while a diamond from a jewelry store can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars?

I would think that it is because diamond abrasives are made of many very small pieces of diamond. In contrast jewelry is made of larger and higher quality diamonds.

Well, look at the prices. The larger micron compounds cost more than the smaller micron compounds (until you get to 0.1 microns). Just like visible diamonds cost more when the stone is a higher carat weight.

They say that size doesn't matter, but it does.

You just find more small bits of diamond than you do big bits of diamond in nature.
