Diamond Blade Knives

Better give one to one of the knife testers on the forum and see how well they hold up to being beaten through a piece of wood by hitting the spine of the blade with a 3 lbs hammer. :)

Search is now active. Using the "advanced search" function Search the General discussion and testing forums using the term "friction" searching titles only. You can also use Google to search BF. You will find a number of threads.

You will find several very very satisfied purchasers of the knife. OOB sharpness is said to be adequate to whittle hair ( and Nozh2002 posted pictures to prove it) Vasili also did edge retention testing using his own rig. He was amazed at the retention.

Worth every penny, in my opinion.

Seems as though they basically use a rotary cutter with a special bit (like a router for wood?), and let the steel get hot while cutting. And that makes it worth 400 bucks.
Eh?

;)

Over simplified to a fault. I always have a 'better' place to apply the money sadly. Id love to have one of these knives! A technical wonder imo.

Well, it is way over an average and shows amaizing results in comparison to steels I tested before it - I was very excited. But after it I tested other steel and it turns out FFD2 is not the best in my tests. See table for details:

http://playground.sun.com/~vasya/Manila-Rope-Results.html

However do not take this test too seriously. I think more of this 800 cuts need to be done on the same steel to see how stable results are etc... However I can not do more because injure my elbow on Military and it did not heel yet...

Sharpness is the best at that time for sure, but now Kershaw also learn how to make hair whittling sharpness too.

I also have scales displaced just a little bit after so many cutting (800 times half inch manila rope) - not too much but I can sense it and this bothers me just because for this price range it should not happen.

Thanks, Vassili.

nozh2002,

I'm trying to figure out how your chart reads since its in Russian. I take it the far left hand column is number of cuts, but what to the numbers under the steels represent? For most of my knives I like to use S30V. How does this steel do compared to the others?

This number is weight needed to cut cotton thread with this edge.

I do 21 measurements and take median.

All what I tested is in this table. So CPM S30V doing pretty well. But again you may notice that some steel doing better at the beginning some doing better in the end.

So if you are able and will to resharpen you knife after 100 cuts then one steel FFD2 is better then CPM S30 but if you need it to work 800 cuts without resharpening then CPM S60V is best. This table shows difference and you may see what you prefer.

Now there is many other parameters to consider, not only edge retention on half inch manila rope.

Thanks, Vassili.

I wanted to get a nice looking hunter/high quality (desert ironwood handle) with great edge retention and thought about the Diamond Blade. I ended up getting a Dozier master hunter for about half the price. I won't be looking any further as this knife is a ten on all counts.

I was curious about these knives but can get alot of custom for that kinda money . would love to hear more

I plan to buy one of these knives, but none of the current models appeal to me, so I'll wait. I wish they would offer a small fixed-EDC type model with some kind of guard. That I'd buy.

I think they've been around long enough to start offering a better selection of models. I mean this is knife design, not rocket science.
