Diamond & Ceramic Rods

:confused: I just got DMT's Diamond steel and their newer ceramic rod.
But Iam A novice when it comes to sharpening and would
like to know the limitations of these rods, like are they strictly
for thin kitchen knives? or are they ok to touch up thicker blades? at least blades with an undamaged bevel? Thank You.
