Classicshaving.com has a few. I sharpen my knives and then i want to strop them. I am only going to buy 1 bottle of compound as i cannot be spending loads of cash on continuous knife supplies. Out of the 4 they have, which one do you recommend i get?

.25 micron
.50 micron
1.0 micron
9.0 micron

And how long would one of those tubes last me? I will not be stropping every day.

Is this place good to buy from and is this paste any good? Any cheaper/better places to buy from? Some people said they waited like a month for stuff to arrive from Hand American. Also, will i have to apply this stuff every time i strop or will it soak and load up the strop like the green compound does?

Get the daimond spray from japaneseknifesharpening.com and a hard felt pad.

I ordered from HandAmerican expecting to wait. fortunately I got lucky. They have quite the history or being very, very, very, slow.

I have both the .25 and the .50 mics. These days I only use the .50 then go to a bare strop.

I bought two of each about 15 years ago. I still have one unused of each and a quarter of the .50 and half of the .25 in the second tubes. Mine came in syringes, but I don't remember from whom I ordered. Little things about the size of my small finger, maybe a bit thinner. (I just went and looked... 5gm tubes.) I went though most of it the first month. Then I learned how much I really needed to work properly.

Also, will i have to apply this stuff every time i strop or will it soak and load up the strop like the green compound does?

I add two or three drops each year and spread it around with my thumb.

Another member on here recommends i use the 1.0 micron. How sharp does you knife have to be after sharpening to take it onto the .50 micron strop? Im still unsure which micron to get

Ive done A LOT of experimentation here of late with stropping tools and technique. All hand american product. Diamond slurry, boron carbide and CrO, in various combination with felt, film and 3 different kinds of leather. Ive tried 1 micron and .25 mic in the diamond, 1.5 micron in the BC, and of course the ubiquitous .5 mic CrO.

Felt is highly forgiving compared to leather regarding pressure and angle. If you have a heavy hand, which I have to concentrate to mitigate myself, 1 micron diamond on hard felt is a great "coarse" strop. To OP....if I could only have 1 strop PERIOD, it would be a hard felt charged with 1 mic diamond. That will remove any remaining hint of a burr and polish an edge with the absolute swiftness and without the same ease with which leather can put you back to your EF stone with a rolled edge. And if you've done it all right up to that point, it'll be stupid sharp with the ever so slightest hint of bite, though you will be able to see your reflection in the edge.

You'll lose the darn bottle before you run out brother, can bout guarantee you that lol. I usually charge mine every 5 or 6 uses, or whenever I stop seeing the "diamond dust" flicking up as I strop. Always let it dry, as in, refresh the strop when your done, not when you're ready to start. In fact, both my brother and my best friend got a hard felt pad charged with 1 micron diamond as a stocking stuffer this year, and both are raving about how sharp they can keep their blades between sharpenings. Not to mention they can't do but so much damage with those lol. It's a great touch up tool if you haven't rolled or chipped the edge. Hope that helps.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. It definitely helped me to clarify my decision
