With harder steels being so popular, I’ve gotten interested in stepping up. I’m currently using a standard leather strop loaded with green compound. I’m stropping CMP 154, Magnacu, Maxamet, M4, 15V and 20CV. I’ve had decent luck maintaining the edge of my knives by just stropping. I was about to spring for some Gunny Juice and found it as rare as teeth in a hen. I’m determined to ride this wave so I went to the Gritomatic website and found something a little different. I’m going to try it on Wicked Edge balsa strops And see how we do.View attachment 2157464

It's not bad at all.. I've had pretty similar results from it as well as DMT and Gunny Juice.

Stroppy Stuff works well. I posted a couple pics about finishing with it in the "What did you sharpen today" thread here, FYI :

From what I have found Gunny Juice is the fastest cutting stuff I have tried,I have never used stroppy stuff but from what I have heard people say about it it should do ok as well, the Venev paste also works but Gunny Juice is the king right now.

The only stuff that I found didn't work and that was the stuff from the late Ken Schwartz and that stuff worked fine when I first started buying it off of him and later on it was like no diamonds were even in his emulsion at all.

Great input. Thanks! I’m still able to improve most of my edges with my Hutsuls paddle strop with green crayoned on the smooth side and white on the rough side.

I watched all his videos on YouTube before I bought any. I bought one bottle to try, I ended up getting two more. It impressed me. I have 9, 6, and 1 micron now.

Both methods work great. I start each day by paper cut testing the edge of my daily choice. I then give the blade about 10 medium pressure alternating strokes. The improvement in cutting is always measurable. Im lucky that all my knives are all new with great steel and factory edges. None are subject to heavy use. I have yet to use my fancy Work Sharp precision adjustable system because stropping does it every time.

Take away message: I like using a balsa strop with Stroppy Stuff 4 micron spray for daily blade touch up. I also like traditional leather stop with compound crayoned on.
