I was gifted 2 different colors of diamond compound. I have never used it. Do I treat it like I do green compound or do I need to do something different?

Thanks in advance.

They'll be two different "grits" or micron sizes, so most of us don't mix 'em. If you want to use both, you'll need two separate strops, or a two-sided strop. If it's compound, it'll be like toothpaste. Just rub some into the surface of the strop as evenly as possible. It won't take much. I don't like for my strops to be caked with compound, I just like some worked into the surface of the wood. If it's diamond spray, just try to spray a light, even coat and then rub it on. I let mine dry overnight, then start using them.

Make sure you apply the compound very lightly otherwise it will make the strop sticky.

Not intending to hijack the thread but is there any advantage on using water soluble diamond compound over oil soluble kind?
Thanks

Water dries up faster, oil tends to leave a lasting paste on the strop. The water would tend to be easier to use, as the oil based one would just be picked up by the edge when you try to strop it. Hence why you have to apply lightly and wait for it to dry up a bit first.

are we talking applying to regular leather strops! or on a wood block,as the OP did not say!
