Does anyone know why there are no diamond grit sanding belts available? Or are there some and I just don't know about them?
Or even diamond grit 9X11 sanding sheets.
It seems with all the other grit types out there, I would think diamonds would be a natural. Or is it just to cost preventative to make and use them.
The reason I ask is last year I was working on a custom log home where the homeowners were having marble countertops installed. I was talking with the marble guys about how the finish the marble and they said one of the things they use is diamond sandpaper for the final finish. I was very interested and got a piece of the paper from them. It is a 4" diameter disc with a small hole in the middle and has velcro on the back for attaching to a random orbital sander. All it says on the back is "600"(the grit size) and "Made in Canada". He said he buys them from a larger stone fishing company in a nearby large city.
He didn't know anything about other grits or other configurations (9x11 or belts). These little discs are little small to be very practical.
I haven't got around to reserching other places yet, but thought I'd ask here to see if anyone else knew anything about the subject.
Thanks.
