I use one micron diamond paste on my strop.. after I strop I notice some of the paste ends up on my edge.. is this normal or am I just not spreading it out enough.. it doesn't hurt the edge I just don't know if it helps it when that happens

Sounds like you are using to much compound on your strop. I only use about pea sized amount of diamond compound on my 10x3in strop.

Too much paste. Use a hair drier and heat up the strop and try to rub the paste in better. The heat will help the strop absorb the paste better.

how do you spread a pea sized diamond paste all over a 10x3 strop? just seems like its difficult to do, even with heat.

i use compound right now, but am considering using spray or paste in the future (on a new strop of course).

I use the one drop at a time method. Apply one small pea sized blob and spread until you need more then repeat.

If the strop is dry it will soak up the compound so I usually start by giving a paper towel a small spritz of WD-40 and rub the strop to condition it. This will allow you to use less compound and it will spread easier.

I use spray and it's really easy to apply and I'm thinking about buying more to stockpile since it doesn't seem to be reliably available and the paste sounds like a huge pain.

If I were doing it I think I would be inclined to squeeze out the amount I wanted to use and mix it with a couple CC of light oil or leather conditioner. Then use this larger, diluted mix to spread out. I think I would still try to apply sparingly because it's easy to apply more to the same area if you have some leftover instead of running out and having to use more and also probably too much.

This has been a useful trick for me with medicine if I need to accurately divide up a small amount.
