Diamond Paste

I picked up a Wicked Edge a while back and have been tinkering with it. It blows me away how much sharper the edge develops between going from the 1000 grit stones to being stropped with leather/diamond paste.

That said, the tiny little syringes of paste that WE sells are a touch spendy.

I did some poking around on Amazon and found this:

http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Lappi...3982&sr=8-13&keywords=diamond+polishing+paste

For the cost of 20 mL of paste in syringes, I could get nearly a lifetime's supply of paste of various gradations.

Anyone have an opinion on these? Would this product be an equivalent substitute, or am I missing something? I'm thinking I could refill the syringes I have with this.

Thanks.

When you purchase any stropping compound you are paying for a couple things.

A) The physical amount of abrasive in the compound
B) The grading ,or quality of the compound.

You arent going to get any more physical abrasive just by going to a cheaper/larger bottle. You will just have to reload your strops more often. While the potential is there for you to purchase an inferiorly graded product.

I've used those or at least ones that look the same but bought on ebay. They work. The DMT ones seem to do better but not by much.

I would go with a known brand so you know what you are getting. The DMT pastes are pretty good, and they are available in a variety of microns. I have used the 1,3, and 6 micron versions of the diamond paste.

I tried a paste from eBay. Cheap. No name. They did not work anywhere near as good as the dmt/we paste.
