Diamond plates a no-go on magnetized Hapstone?

Just noticed when looking on Gritomatic's website that a few of the diamond plates mention they aren't compatible with the Hapstone sharpening system with the magnetic table. Does anyone specifically know why?

It made me concerned. I don't have a Hapstone, but I do have an Edge Pro with the retractable magnet and have been using diamond plates often. I haven't noticed any big issues, but seeing that made me think twice. I just wanted to know if anyone knew specifically why they aren't compatible with each other? And does that mean I shouldn't be using conventional diamond plate stones with my Edge Pro when using the magnet? (which would be a HUGE bummer as I LOVE using the retractable magnet).

It wouldn't be the end of the world since I have a set of Diamond Matrix stones, but I try not to use them on "junk" knives I sharpen for others (soft gummy stainless steel). I use the cheap diamond plates on the cheap knives.

I saw that recently, and wondered the same. I have been using diamond plates on my Hapstone sharpeners, with magnetic tables. Both the M2 and V8. I have been using them for several years now and have had no issues. I intend to keep using them. My plates are from CKTG not Gritomatic, but I don't see why that would matter. Being steel backed the plates will stick to the table if there is no knife on it, but that doesn't hurt anything.

O.B.

The only thing I can think of is that the table might (?) magnetize the stones, causing swarf to adhere to them. Seems rather unlikely, as the stones don't get that close to the table.

It's not really a problem at all, more of an inconvenience of the magnets attracting the ferromagnetic plates towards them which results in slightly more sharpening pressure. The plates do not get magnetized by the stones.

I use a variety of diamond plated stones often on magnetic platform sharpening systems (Hapstone, Leading Edge, Kazak, etc) and it works just fine.

With really tiny, thin blades the effect is slightly more but with larger knives, the effect is much less noticeable because the plates are further away from the magnets.
