I've been holding off on the Spyderco Diamond rods for a long time. Well, I finally took the plunge and purchased a set. Now I'm kicking myself for holding off so long. Sweet addition to the Sharpmaker!

These rods are AGRESSIVE! Wow! A co-worker had an improperly sharpened (and extremely dull) Kershaw that he'd been pestering me about for a while. I knew the edge angle was way too deep from the factory and was dreading the re-profile job this was going to entail. This knife became the first full re-profile job these diamond rods would run across. Sterling results. Sheesh. No pressure required. We're talking VERY LITTLE pressure here. I don't want to dislodge the diamond dust so I took it real easy. The diamonds CUT CUT CUT anyway. Five minutes and the dude's Kershaw was reprofiled to the 40 degree setting. Moving on to the other stones, we made a scalpel out of it. I also sharpened another co-worker's Caly junior and got it surgically sharp in mere minutes.

Get these rods folks. I know why you're holding off. Same reason I did. Always some new knife in the Spyderco lineup you just HAVE to have. Well, skip it for now. Get the rods. You won't be sorry. These rods rock and roll. Lots of bang.

I really really need to buy these. My sister dumped a box of dull kitchen knives on me and it made me realize how long it takes with the standard rods. I just wish they weren't so darned expensive.

My only hold up is, how long do they last?
My past experance with diamond stones is, they cut fine for a while then, they don't.
I'm not going to plunk down that kind of money for a sharpener that plays out after 5 or 6 dull knives. I use an Edge Pro to reprofile my dull blades, it's a bit of a pain to use, but quite effective and the stones last a very long time.

The ultra fine stones rock as well. Talk about putting on a scary sharp edge.

Icertainly need these. It's a shame they don't sell'em apiece.
btw, how to clean them?
standard comet&water?

I have the diamond rods for my Sharpmaker and although they do cut fast, I find myself using the Edgepro for fast reprofiling results. The Edgepro gives me more angle options than the 30/40 degree angles found on the Sharpmaker. I use the Sharpmaker for touchup only now. By the way, the Sharpmaker along with the Edgepro makes a great combo.
