Sorry if this is a bone head question, but I received an EZ LAP diamond shapener model M round diamond sharpener for xmas. I`m new to rods in sharpening ( since BFC:D ) Do you push the rod down the blade of the knife or still try to get the knife to slice down the blade or does it matter.
Thanks:)
Edited to add I really scratched my blade and removed lots of steel. And my blade is dull:mad:
I also have only a medium grit diamond. stone. and med. grit ceramic ones. Do I need fine ones. I am tired of my Lansky by the way anyone want it

Are you referring to a diamond steel or a diamond rod sharpener? I use a diamond rod DMT that is used for serrations. I use a slicing motion with the edge leading the stroke. One thing about the diamond stones, is you can sort of vary the amount of "polish" by varying the amount of pressure. Hard pressure acts like a coarse stone, whereas very light pressure will act like a fine stone.
