I just got a set of 3 diamond "stones".
Grit:
◦150 course
◦300 med
◦400 fine

Is that about right? I never used diamond stones, but it seems a bit rough!!

I'm not a huge expert in regards to stones, but 400 is still pretty coarse. It will take a while for them to wear it and in the mean time, the edge will probably be pretty rough. Do you have a strop to remove your burrs?

Yes I do. I have a few el cheapo knives to test them out on. Then I can hit the kitchen I guess :D.

That's the spirit! I wish there was a quicker way to break them in, but the best way it to just grind the hell out of some cheap knives (not bearing down or anything - you don't want to actually dislodge the diamonds). Once worn in, the 400 should produce a pretty decent finish!

Well, I tookmy new stones to my BK2. WOW do they cut fast!! I am not 100% secure in my freehand sharpening, so I used my Lansky as the angle guide with the diamond stone under the Lansky stone and away we went!!! My BK2 is as sharp as ever and my Wife's favorite butcher knife is amazingly sharp. I did try luck with my Kershaw Blur an my My Tighe- Those small blades I can freehand easily ---WOW!.

I will say I thought I was doing it wrong, but as soon as I hit the strop things really got sharp. Thank you for the help. Some of you are amazing!!! :)

Don't forget to use a very light touch on the hones, they work better when you let the hone do the work.
