On the market for a diamond sharpening stone, not looking to drop more then $60 but if its worth the money then leave a comment! I am a novice knife sharpener, so leave some tips with your recommendations please!

Brandon, do you have any other stones?
Lansky and EZ Lap have some good diamond stones for the money.
I use the lansky medium fine/ fine field sharpener for when I'm out and such.
I use an EZ Lap 1200 grit for home details.
However these are just my diamond stones and not my whet/dry stones.

I highly recommend the EZ Lap 1200 grit.
Lasting me forever and puts an excellent edge on my knives before I finish it with my 2000 grit and 3000 grit whet stones.

For the money, it's hard to beat the 2X6 DMT plates.

I've been liking my double-sided 6" Fine/EF Dia-Sharp a LOT lately (also available in Coarse/XC). The Fine/EF is very versatile, fast and leaves a great working edge. Either can be had for the budget specified ($60), or even less.

I think you can get a set of 2x6 inch double sided DMT's in a wooden box for like $80

DMT's are often regarded as one of the best diamond stone manufacturers. If you look for it you can find a 6x2 DMT kit that has the XC/C/F/EF grits that are 2 stones that have one grit each side and include a wood case. I think it was a DMT Diasharp kit and it cost around $75-80 if memory serves me correct, a quick search for DMT Diasharp kit will probably pull it right up on the search engine.

quoted from another thread I posted in a week or so ago, it's about $20 more than you want to spend but I think it be well worth it. Same thing Sir Mike was referring to I believe.

@Bob6794 - yes, that is the exact setup I was referring to. :)

DMT 6x2, 4 grits (XC/C/F/EF)/2 stones and wooden box about $80.

Suggestions - Don't press down on a diamond stone, especially a new one ,as it tends to pull out the diamonds. You can use a bit of water to help remove some of the metal particles. Diamond will sharpen anything even carbide tooling !

I have a 2x6 dmt coarse/fine coming in soon. I'll be using it to establish working edges on my more wear resistant vanadium steels. I've used the DMT aligner before, but it was when I was very inexperienced at sharpening. The stones do cut fast though. Should be a good investment.
