Has anyone here had experience with cheaper and more expensive diamond stones? I've heard that with cheaper diamond stones, the diamonds coated on the surface will wear out, alot of people seem to be using DMT diasharp stones, but they're a bit outside my price range, one that is in my price range is from an Australian company i think, it's called torquata.

The diamonds themselves won't wear out. The difference is in the plating process used to attach the diamonds to the base plate. If that process is not done well, the diamonds will come out of the plating and be lost very quickly, rendering the hone non-functional. I have used DMT and E Z Lap hones with satisfactory results. The Smith's brand hones I have tried seem to lose their bite much more quickly. I am not familiar with the brand you mentioned.

The diamonds do wear and become progressively finer .My Eze-Lap 1/4" rod is 20-25 years old and still being used !! Get a good one it's worth the price.

At $20 each, I'm going to be getting the above set. I don't think that's horrendously expensive. I have one of the polka-dotted ones (which is more expensive), but it doesn't seem to be grinding my bevels evenly, so I'm getting the continuous one.
I can't get a credit card, and my Dad dislikes buying from other countries, so i'm buying from Australian stores, thus the higher price.

Does Knifeworks.com accept International Orders?

Due to the cost of shipping, we will no longer ship swords internationally

Yes, The Minimum order to be shipped to an international location is $100.00 (Not including Shipping Cost) due to the time involved in processing the orders. We will only ship using US Postal Service Global Express, at a cost of $33.95 for the first pound and $4.50 per additional pound.

I got a set of 3 from harbor freight, they have a perforated surface and show no signs of wear after 2 years of use. They work good but the DMT hones work far better, producing a better looking finish and a sharper edge. Save you money and get the DMT hones it will save you money in the end.
