I have a one of a kind Busse that I have owned for years. I brought it to Blade several years ago and several people asked for first crack at it if I ever sold it. I have retained the list of the first three, in order of the asking. None of them still post on this forum (Progunner, Wetdog, Dark Nemesis). Nonetheless, if I decide to sell it they would be contacted first if I could find them.

I have some knives that people in the past have wanted to buy when I didn't want to sell. I remember two of these and again would offer them first shot. I didn't keep up with most of them because they did not request future consideration.

Anyone who has been involved with Busse for years has been subject to some casual "dibs" called in passing on knives they had.

So, how do you track such dibs. Do you even try?

By the way, I am not preparing to sell anything at present. This is more of a question for future reference.

I've done that with some older knives, and found that when I've gone back to these "dibs", more often than not their tastes have moved on - especially when high values are concerned. I think keeping a reference list and sending out an intent-to-sell notification is the right thing to do, but don't count that as money in the bank. Times and collector enthusiasm shifts.

My best means of keeping track of requests has been by searching my email history. When I receive a PM here, it sends a copy to my email address. I can search back 15 years if needed.

From the other side of the coin, as a person who hopes to retain dibs, I like to drop Jaxx a note once every year or three to let him know my continued interest. Rarely, I'll drop a hint in a thread that he might come across, such as this. :)

Its still worth asking if for no other reason than to make good on your word. I try to remember but have no formal list. IIRC, "GPB" expressed interest in what had just become my LMS and I replied with something like 'Thanks no but you have first refusal'. Other than that I may PM folks who post that they 'Really like ________s' before listing it on the exchange.
Pete

I don't track them but I try to remember who has spoken up. Before I put the Chicago Badger up on the Exchange, I contacted (via PM) a couple people who had indicated an interest in the past.

Ok, I'll call "DIBS" on the "puzzle heart"

Progunner is still kicking, I can contact him if you want me to? No worries either way, I just dont give out contact info without permission. :D

Here is my opinion on this so take it for what it is worth :)

1st Very cool of you mike to keep track, I know you are a great guy and know you are good like that.

I for one do keep track of folks that do ask and have had several deals where when I bought or traded for something people ask for first right of refusal if when I ever sell some thing we worked a deal on.
When I decide to let it go I do my best to contact them.

The few times I have had the same kindness come my way I am very very appreciative of it.

In fact a knife I really wanted years ago (about 10) but missed out on buying back when it was just Busse at one booth at Blade, finally came my way and is now home in Utah. Thank you to the Brother who it was.

Sometimes ones from others I had counted on having first crack at got sold without checking with me because of a lack of memory and it does sting but if it is years and such it is understandable.
If it is months then it is less understandable but stuff happens, you just learn and move on.

With all that said, if you have HACK Bear cubs I would sure like a crack at them :)

Great post by the way

I have a few blades that have come with a request of first chance being offered if it goes back on the block, I will always honour these if at all possible. It is clear with some Busse blades that that they are never "owned", someone is just giving them a home at a given time... ;)

Chances are most of them forgot about it. But I see it as a good thing if you try to contact them and give them first shot.

IIRC, I have only one dibs still outstanding. Heavy sold me his CG SFNO back in 2007, when they were rare beasts, and asked for first dibs if I was going to move it. There was a Mr. Mofo that Xaman sold me, that turned out to have been from Jeepnut22. When I was ready to sell, Jeepnut wasn't ready to buy, so I hung on to it for a few years until he was ready, and then sent it back home.

If anyone reading this has dibs on something else, please speak up and remind me.

I had a list...then my HDD crashed on my other computer. Lost it. I remember a few, but not nearly all...

Huh? Not for that DCBB LMS that I sold? ;) ...See I like to play too. :D :D This dibs I remember.
Thanks for the reminder, I do also save those, and I managed to salvage at least most of those text files from that hard drive. :)

Haha, I'm pretty sure I was on there too Jaxx!! I've not dealt much with dibs but I have asked a few for first shot if they decide to sell one I sold to them. And I have hinted politely that ide be interested in a few should someone decide to sell in the future. I have no reason to think they wouldn't keep me in mind unless it's just lost to time and memory. Having said that I believe people who have had multiple dealings or acted as proxies are a great group on this forum and def take care of each other.

Riiiiiiiiiight. LMAO. And I JUST cleaned out my PM's so y'all don't EVEN THINK about dibsbombing me! :D:D ;) :)

Seriously!!!!! ;)
