Dick Atkinson blades???

I met him at a knife show several years ago. He had about a bazillion knives on his table. :) After trying to make up my mind for about 4 hours, I finally narrowed it down to a one nice folder. Very reasonable price; maybe $130 or so. 440C blade and micarta handles, with no liners. Mine was nice and tight when I got it, but loosened up and developed moderate blade play pretty quickly.

Folks always seem to say good things about Atkinson made knives. In particular, I think people are impressed by the value his work offers. He's made knives for many years and the quality is good but the prices are quite low. I have noticed, however that his knives frequently sell for less on the secondary market (take a look on Ebay) and that is a bit troubling. Maybe part of the reason is because he is very prolific and there is plenty of supply. Maybe he raised his prices recently and folks own his stuff for less. Maybe he sells at a deep discount to dealers. I don't know. I corrresponded with him not long ago and he had a few folders in stock but wasn't making any fixed blades. He said he was busy with a couple projects and would likely make more fixed blades but he couldn't give me a date.
It seems a little silly that you can buy one of his folders for the price of a production blade.

Why is there a Benchmade and Spyderco pocketclips on these knives?

Thanks for the info. I found some used ones here for $90. I may go that route.

Any more info is appreciated...

I have known Dick for years and consider him a friend (even though he can't spell my last name right Re pic credit on website :) and have owned/used one of his knives for as long (about 10 years). It is a metal slabbed lockback and is still solid as a tank.

I feel he offers the best value in a handmade knife as far as bang for the buck.

If you are into 1911's he is also making some fantastic micarta grips for them.

I've had one of his "flippers" for a couple of years, and it is a very solid piece of work. The fact that it can only be opened by flipping is a conversation starter, which can be both good and bad :) The very pointed dagger blade is somewhat limited in application, a little unusual in a folder.
I read someplace that he may be involved in the MercWorks line (?) Anyone else hear the same?
