Howdy all! I was recently looking at Dick Atkinson's website, when I noticed that a lot of his knives are listed as being sprung with a hand wound coil spring. I don't want to bother him with this, so I thought I'd just ask here in case someone knew the answer. Does this mean that his knives have something akin to a speedsafe mechanism in them, or some kind of assisted opening mechanism? Anyone know, or should I just write to him and ask? Thanks, again!

Sincerely,
Anthony

I remember an article on those folders. you lift the brass tab with your thumb, then pop your wrist, sorta like a gravity knife.

I just looked at his website, he uses coil spring in the context of the locking bar support. The spring which supports the locking bar is what gives it its strength, flat or coled types are used. The coil type is thought to be stronger.

My first post refers to a second type he makes, that I thought you were refering to.

As ususal Bob is right.

I know Dick pretty well and he is one heck of a guy.
Give him a call or write him. I would rather talk to him anytime.

Tell him Gus said it was OK (both of you will get a laugh out of that one).
