man... when i heard this story in my church i could feel a little tear come to my eye. so i decided to do a bit of research.
Quoted from teamhoyt.com:
" Dick and Rick Hoyt are a father-and-son team from Massachusetts who together compete just about continuously in marathon races. And if theyre not in a marathon they are in a triathlon that daunting, almost superhuman, combination of 26.2 miles of running, 112 miles of bicycling, and 2.4 miles of swimming. Together they have climbed mountains, and once trekked 3,735 miles across America. "
Dick Hoyt's son, Rick Hoyt was born with cerebral palsey and is a mute quadrapalegic. Rick's dream was to live a life like everyone else and at the age of 12 he communicated to his father that he wanted to participate in a local marathon. they've been doing it ever since
Dick drags his son behind him in a dingy across bodies of water,
carries his son and peddles for him on a bike
and pushes his son in a wheel chair all the way to the end of that finish line.
its a truly awe inspiring story which makes kids appreciate their dads and dads appreciate their kids.
the love this man shares with his son can only be seen in the happiness of Rick's face when they finish a race.
Dick Hoyt, a man truly driven by passion and love for his son.
