My GW edge was WAY too thick so I finally got to REALLY thinning it down enough today. I first took the edge down with my Diamond stone going from 80 grit on up to 600. I then started convexing with the mouse pad and some 500 grit wet/dry til satisfied, then hit with 1000, then strop, then 2000 grit to finish it off. Hair popping sharp and not the sharpened pry bar it used to be :p

Please excuse my crappy photography skills:

If only there were a simple and reliable test for the sharpness of an edge.

Looks pretty sharp, though!

There is  I see how smooth the edge is by dragging it at a 90 degree angle on my thumbnail. Make sure there are no snags, look at the edge in the light to make sure there are no flat spots or small rolls in the edge. Then I see how well it bites into a callused finger tip. If I can shave off a wisp of skin without any resistance and good bite it's good :p

We need PICS!!! :p

The only thing I could take a picture of now would be GW leg shaving....but since I'm not much of a leg shaver I'll have to pass :p

I believe there's a couple people here that might be into that kinda thing though

Wanna try that with my fatty custom GW? LOL

(Truth is - the shop did a good job of pulling back the edge when sharpening that one. Still a pointy railroad spike, but cool to look at.)

Great looking edge:thumbup:

Did you use an edge-pro or go freehand ?

Whatever you used it looks like a perfect edge!

Thanks Ken  I do it freehand....there's some room for error: I cheat and thin the edge out MOST of the way with a coarse diamond stone then smooth it out with the finer grits moving upward. I then finish smoothing out and take a little more off with some 500g carbide wet/dry. As soon as the edge is where I want it I move up to 1200 to clean it up, strop to make sure everything is perfectly aligned and hit it with some 2000 grit for the final polish. It's not perfect, but close enough for a user :D
